Our
Story
Hi! I'm Simran Goel, a high school senior in the southwest suburbs of Chicago and the creator of Right Bin Right Now, a recycling education program built to make waste sorting simple.
I started this project after realizing how confusing recycling can actually be. Even people who deeply care about the environment, including me, aren’t always sure what goes where. That uncertainty leads to a lot of contamination: when the wrong items land in recycling or compost bins, entire batches can be sent to the landfill, undoing everyone's good intentions.
My passion for environmental issues grew through my work in conservation programs and my own research into pollution and sustainability. One pattern kept surfacing: people want to do the right thing, but they lack clear, accessible information to guide them.
Since launching our community events in summer 2026, Right Bin Right Now has reached over 600 people across 8 events, partnering with organizations such as Forest Preserves of Cook Country, Homewood Science Center, Indian Boundary YMCA, Aurora Farmers Market, and more. Our local recycling guidelines and composting guide help you sort with confidence and make a real difference, one item at a time.
